Waiting at Crossroads

"David," Raúl said quietly. "David, you can't just sit in the dark like this."

The piece of his mind David was prepared to give Raúl sort of fell out of his mouth once he looked up. Unperturbed, Raúl divested himself of the scarves, webcam-enabled laptop, social media how-to books and life-size cutout of David and then sat down beside the other man.

"You're probably still in shock, I know, but it's never too early to start," Raúl said, flipping open the laptop. He took it out of sleep-mode and booted up some software called...Sockpuppet 1.0?...and then tilted the screen so David could see better. "You need to establish yourself early, so you have a solid base to keep resurfac--"

"What the hell?"

Raúl paused, then sighed. "David. You're not going to the Euros. It's a huge disappointment, but obviously it's just step one of your campaign to stay in the public eye." He muttered something about Barcelona being terrible for David's nonexistent PR skills and Pep not knowing how to whine even if his principles allowed it. "Now, you have to galvanize your fanbase to constantly bring up your absence so you're not forgotten and you stay at the forefront of..."

As the other man rattled on about balancing the fanatic antics with press backlash to the initial backlash, David slowly realized that he, too, had finally, truly joined them. The legends of Spain. He wondered if it was too late to transfer back to Gijón.

Title: Firewater
Author: Guede Mazaka
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Didier Drogba/Florent Malouda
Feedback: Good lines, typos, etc.
Disclaimer: Completely made-up pack of lies, all lies.
Notes: Alternate World. The setting mashes up references from the late Renaissance to the early Enlightenment, but as it says above: Alternate World, not historical AU. Part of the Shadowlands series. Set between Plainsman and Eclipse.
Summary: On the sidelines, but definitely not a bystander.

900 words: I wrote this ages ago, thought it might turn into a bigger installment and then totally forgot about it. Seems right to post it while Drogba's on another career upswing. )

So obviously, things have been really sporadic around here. I do not intend for this to be permanent, but when it comes down to trading sleep for sorting out my career or for writing, lately I've been going with the former.

I'm not happy with my job. My chosen field sees long hours as a fact of life, but I usually work ridiculous hours (you know it's bad when multiple doctors tell you your schedule sucks), and there are other issues. I'm actively looking into alternatives. I write when I can make time for it, and have every intention of finishing at least the Shadowlands series and the Ghost Quest fic, but they're not too high up on the priority list right now, to be totally honest.

Title: Ghost Quest, Inc.
Author: Guede Mazaka
Rating: R for now.
Pairing: Iker Casillas/Victor Valdés.
Feedback: Good lines, typos, etc.
Disclaimer: Fake. Never happened.
Notes: Horror/suspense satirical AU. Sequel to Calling Out the Dead and The Pichichi Project.
Summary: Intrepid film students are blackmailed into making another ghost movie.

Part 1, 3400 words. I actually have half-written Shadowlands fic I wanted to get up first, but plotting for that has been hard to do around work. So a little bit of Iker's life of torment by short black-haired attackers first. )

Title: Nude Therapy
Author: Guede Mazaka
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Aaron Ramsey/Wojciech Szczęsny
Feedback: Good lines, typos, etc.
Disclaimer: Not real. Never happened.
Notes: Ramsey’s leg was broken during a February 2010 match against Stoke. Although previously a rising star with Arsenal, he had some difficulties in re-establishing himself in the first-team after recovering from the break.
Summary: Ramsey needs a little help settling in after coming back from injury.

1300 words: Yeah, it's been so long, I almost forgot I wrote stuff too. )

Title: Transport
Author: Guede Mazaka
Rating: PG
Pairing: Brief Iker Casillas/Victor Valdés.
Feedback: Good lines, typos, etc.
Disclaimer: Not real. Fictional. Satire.
Notes: In homage to that show about the liminal time and space between day and night, where strange things occur. And a mild The Usual Suspects riff. Valencia did have a regular team movie night while Silva and Villa were at the club.
Summary: David Villa is the worst TV host ever. That’s normal. Everything else isn’t.

5200 words: I don't know, I've been buried in work so long my head's in a weird place. Silva's Keyzer Soze moment, with the caveat that I've never actually seen that movie but even a modicum of fanfic reading gets you a lot of info about cult classics )

Hit another crazy-busy patch at work. I miss writing. And watching things on TV without having to work at the same time. And free time and sleep and eating slowly.
